To have a case, we must first prove that another person or entity is legally responsible for your injuries. This generally requires that we have sufficient evidence to prove a mistake or an intentional act by a liable party. The specific type of evidence needed will vary based on whether the case is for malpractice, an automobile accident, a slip and fall injury or another type of serious personal injury.

Once legal responsibility for your injuries is established, several factors will determine the value of your award. The first is the physical injury you've suffered. In a successful case, the award attempts to compensate you for the cost of medical treatment you incurred, missed time from work, physical pain and suffering and mental and emotional distress. In cases where the mistake is deemed to be flagrant, punitive damages may be added to the award.
